Foster Parents Lack Standing in Adoption Petitions

The Pennsylvania state Supreme Court has decided that foster parents do not have standing in adoption cases. The justices split 3-3 to rule that the foster parents of a child named G.C could not pursue their custody petition and the child's maternal grandfather would gain custody. Third parties have been at a disadvantage in several decisions coming out of Pa.'s Supreme and Superior Courts over the past few years, with grandparents generally being the ones to benefit most often from the third party's loss.
