The plaintiffs' side touted the verdict as the largest ever issued by a Madera County, Calif., jury. The defense noted the relatively low compensatory damages, totaling just $200,000. The suit accused Universal of retaliating against employees for tipping off police and insurance investigators about suspected fraud.

It took a federal lawsuit by Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to finally shut down a Miami political action committee bearing his name that collected more than $200,000 in donations toward getting Bush re-elected. Bush filed suit in federal court alleging that Americans for Jeb Bush did not distribute any contributions it collected and used Bush's trademarked name and face without permission. The suit was settled immediately.
