SEC Suit Claims Waste Management Inflated Profits
The SEC filed suit on Tuesday against the founder and five other former top officers of Houston-based Waste Management Inc., alleging that they -- with the assistance of long-time auditor Arthur Andersen -- fraudulently inflated profits by $1.7 billion to meet earnings targets. The U.S. Judicial Conference has unanimously accepted proposed changes to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23, which governs the handling of class actions.
