Thousands of Asbestos Cases Clear Hurdle After Ruling

A unanimous ruling by the Georgia Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for thousands of asbestos cases pending in Fulton County and Cobb County courts to go forward. Dedication To Detail Defines A Career

At 95, Randolph W. Thrower has seen his share of the foibles and failings of humankind. In nearly seven decades spent practicing law, he's gone head-to-head with a U.S. president-and lost his job in the process; resisted political pressure to place a man later jailed for his part in the Watergate break-in into a top government post; rooted out Communist sympathizers for the FBI and seen a defendant he represented in a capital case put to death for a crime he may not have committed.

New York Firms Increase Ranks in 2002

Judging by some of the numbers in this year's NYLJ 100 survey of New York's largest law offices, a booming economy isn't the only spur to law firm growth. At many of the city's top firms, the lackluster economy has had a similar effect on their size. Last year, only three firms had more than 500 lawyers in New York. Now there are six of that size.
