N.Y. Judges Lobby for Pay Raises

As the legislative session nears an end, New York judges continued their unprecedented push Tuesday to persuade politicians to raise their salaries. Judges in New York, unlike federal jurists who have regular cost-of-living increases, get a raise only when the Legislature grants one -- which has been just twice since Ronald Reagan was president. Said one justice: "We would feel a lot more comfortable being judges. But the fact that we are here shows just how desperate this has become."
