An ex-Miami cop who quit his job, and then brought a federal suit for retaliation, has won a $245,500 verdict. Juan Aguirre alleged that after he testified in a discrimination suit brought by disabled police officers, he received notice that he could no longer work off-duty assignments without permission and he was threatened with a transfer to a less desirable post. The jury awarded him $235,000 for lost wages and benefits, $5,500 for wages from lost off-duty work, and $5,000 for pain and anguish.
