Objectors fail to block Mattel lead paint settlement

A federal judge has approved a class settlement resolving multidistrict litigation involving lead paint in Mattel toys, rejecting claims by objectors that it amounted to a "coupon" recovery contrary to the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005. Objectors also noted that attorney fees of nearly $13 million exceeded the value to the class.

McDermott Will, Dechert Kick Off New London Pay Push

A group of U.S. firms are gearing up for a round of London associate salary increases, with McDermott Will & Emery and Dechert the first to boost pay rates to keep up with London competition. McDermott Will has brought forward its raises, which were scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, with newly qualified lawyer salaries jumping by 7 percent from $142,394 to $152,565. Meanwhile, Dechert has this month increased its newly qualified rates by around 10 percent to $128,154 to $147,479.

Lateral hiring at 21 of the 26 largest firms in Texas was down 43.1 percent in 2009 compared to the lateral hires made by the same firms in 2008, according to data collected in Texas Lawyer 's annual Lateral Moves Survey.
