WorldCom Inc. and Intermedia Communications agreed to amend the terms of their $5.9 billion deal, announced last September. The agreement ends months of legal wrangling brought against the two companies by minority shareholders in the Web-hosting company Digex Inc., which is 94 percent-controlled by Intermedia.

Prominent Law Firms Move to Limit Liability

In a sign of increased caution in the post-Enron world, two of New York's most prominent law firms have elected to become limited liability partnerships. Sullivan & Cromwell and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison both acquired Limited Liability Partnership status effective Jan. 1, thus ending a combined 250 years of operation as general partnerships.
