Appellate Lawyer of the Week: Double-Recovery Argument Unsuccessful at 14th Court

In the age of tort reform, it's hard enough for plaintiffs to win jury awards in medical-malpractice cases, let alone preserve those awards on appeal. Animal Owners Seek Class Action Status in Suit Over Pet Food Additives

Pet owners seeking class action status in a suit against manufacturers, packers and retailers say TV images of a kitchen making a "Tuscan" meal for kitty are pure fantasy. Complex Litigation: The 'Zahn' Morass

In a case of first impression, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this month waded into Zahn class action/supplemental jurisdiction waters. The decision is noteworthy reading for class action attorneys, Linda S. Mullenix writes. Not only is Judge Richard D. Cudahy's opinion a witty exegesis on a mind-boggling statutory construction problem, but the decision nicely catalogues the extant history of the Zahn morass.
