Insurer Not Liable for Flaws in Church Building

A church seeking to recover a million-dollar verdict from an insurer is out of luck because the claimed damages weren't caused by an "occurrence" during the policy period, the Pennsylvania Superior Court has ruled. The company that built the structurally flawed buildings was liable for $1.2 million, but its insurers weren't because the policy had expired by the time the church became aware of the flaws.
