A New York federal judge has reluctantly approved a $1.9 million settlement requiring a nationwide company that sells Housing Court data to landlords to provide more complete information in its reports. The judge wrote First American Registry had "seized upon the ready and cheap availability of electronic records to create and market a product that can be, and probably is, used to victimize blameless individuals." He also approved $936,000 in attorney fees and expenses for lawyers representing the class.
