But her clients' options have been dramatically altered since Sept. 11, as some contemplate remaining illegal to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Ironically, current efforts to unseat the Taliban may work against some of her clients, says Cherkasky. If the Taliban is out of power by the time of a client's hearing, asylum is unlikely.

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has for the first time backed the enforceability of prenuptial agreements in what will be regarded as a landmark ruling for family law.
