And so it came as a relief to many when on June 20, Soros told Polish television that the worst of the global financial crisis "is behind us." NEW YORK AP - Oil prices got a boost Monday from positive economic indicators and worries about terrorist bombings in Moscow.Benchmark crude for May delivery jumped $2.39, or 3 percent to $82.39 a barrel in midday trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.At least 38 people died and more than 60 were hurt after two female suicide bombers blew themselves up in Moscow subway stations during rush-hour.

For Detainees' Attorneys, All the Rules Have Changed

Among the approximately 250 attorneys who have volunteered for the unusual pro bono project of representing detainees at Guantanamo Bay are four Atlanta attorneys who went to Cuba this summer to meet with their clients: five Yemeni men captured in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the fall of 2001. The clients had trouble trusting the attorneys, believing they were military interrogators posing as lawyers. And the lawyers had to trust the military with matters typically considered attorney-client privilege.

Judge Limits Winston & Strawn's Defense in Malpractice Suit

A New York Supreme Court justice has eliminated all but one avenue of defense for Winston & Strawn in a malpractice suit against the firm. The town of North Hempstead, N.Y., is seeking more than $36 million in damages after being found liable in a suit by the Sumitomo Bank of New York Trust Co. Justice Stephen Bucaria denied Winston & Strawn's summary judgment motion, observing that the firm insulated itself from potential liability by conceding an affirmative defense that would have protected the town.
