Court Narrows Discovery in Royal Caribbean Assault Suit

A female passenger who sued Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for a crew member's assault can't require the company to release the names of individuals who knew of other attacks, a Florida appeals court ruled last week. The panel overturned a judge's order to turn over the names on the grounds that the reports of such incidents were gathered only "in anticipation of litigation" and are therefore protected by the attorney work-product privilege.
