New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer filed lawsuits Thursday that accuse major drug companies Pharmacia Corp. and GlaxoSmithKline of bribing doctors and pharmacists to favor their products, costing consumers as much as $100 million a year. A repeat securities offender has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and must pay $5.5 million restitution under a plea agreement in a hedge fund fraud. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission complaint, Anthony F. Giordano solicited more than $4.5 million for a hedge fund offered by his investment firm from April 2001 to March 2002, but less than a quarter of the money was invested; Giordano converted about $1.5 million to his personal use.
