In a much-anticipated $9.8 billion transaction, BlackRock, Inc., one of the country's largest sellers of stock funds, and Merrill Lynch & Co., the leading seller of fixed-income funds and bonds, announced that they will merge Merrill Lynch's investment management business with BlackRock in order to establish an independent asset management firm. Also, the Magazine Acquisition Group GP has acquired Town and Country Trust in a merger worth $1.4 billion.
