Judge: Plaintiffs in Wal-Mart Discrimination Class Action Can Depose Former Executive

The last time federal Judge Martin Jenkins heard arguments in a major gender discrimination suit against Wal-Mart, he certified a class now estimated to include 2 million of the company's female employees. Three years later, he's given plaintiffs more good news. Jenkins agreed Wednesday to lift a stay on discovery, to allow for the deposition of a former Wal-Mart executive. Calif. Federal Judge Blasts Gang Prosecutors

At a Tuesday hearing in a capital gang case, Northern District of California Judge William Alsup said that the prosecutors' tactics are "slippery," making a "bogus argument," and "inviting the court to make an error." The judge said he plans to exclude from the case a bevy of witnesses, some of whom have key testimony. Alsup's wrath had been building for months, since it became clear that prosecutors had decided not to comply with an order to turn over key evidence, including witness names.
