Complaints against companies implementing English-only policies have almost quintupled in the last four years. In 1996, 77 such complaints were made; so far this year, the EEOC has received 365. The EEOC prosecutes about 20 lawsuits each year and has been increasingly successful obtaining settlements, thanks in part to a new EEOC task force on national origin discrimination.
