Judge Lectures Counsel on Request to Make Documents 'Disappear'

A federal judge has blasted two executives, who are also lawyers, for asking him to make allegations "disappear" after the settlement of a suit that accused them of "fundamentally dishonest behavior." American International Group had sued the executives, accusing them of stealing confidential information from AIG computers for use in launching a new fund. As part of the settlement, the executives' lawyer asked Judge Lewis Kaplan to vacate and seal a temporary restraining order issued against the defendants.

Sullivan & Cromwell Boosts Associates' Pay

New York's Sullivan & Cromwell is increasing associate base salaries by $20,000 across the board, with first-years due to receive $145,000 a year before bonuses. The move tops a round of salary increases led by Los Angeles firms, where first-year base salaries have gone from $125,000 to $135,000. Now other large firms around the nation, most of which have targeted New York for expansion, must decide whether they can keep pace.
