According to Fulbright & Jaworski's third annual survey of litigation trends, the average U.S. company faced 305 suits worldwide, and spent more than 70 percent of its overall legal budget on litigation. Also, nearly two-thirds of U.S. companies that participated in the survey hired outside counsel to conduct an internal investigation. A state appeals court stunned California plaintiffs lawyers Tuesday by issuing a bombshell ruling that completely alters the long-established process judges and juries use to determine punitive damages.
