The 6th Circuit has confirmed an arbitration award of $68 million to Georgia-based Solvay Pharmaceuticals in a case that turned on how judges interpreted a letter agreement. Attorneys for Solvay said the case demonstrates the deference that courts give to arbitration decisions. In the past month, the U.S. Supreme Court and the 11th Circuit have overwhelmingly rejected litigants' attempts to have courts, rather than arbitrators, decide matters potentially governed by arbitration agreements.
