PTO Invalidates TiVo Patent Claims, but Case Against EchoStar Is Far From Over

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has invalidated software patent claims that TiVo used to win $200 million in sanctions and infringement damages against EchoStar. The ruling represents yet another setback for TiVo, following a ruling against it last month at the Federal Circuit. But TiVo -- which has been battling with EchoStar since 2004 over IP rights to digital video recorder technology -- is digging in to continue the legal fight.
