Justice Disputes CCA's Power to Ax Factual-Sufficiency Review
In an unusual move, a justice on Houston's 1st Court of Appeals has challenged the authority of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to eliminate the factual-sufficiency standard of appellate review in criminal cases. Authorities have ruled out foul play in the death of a financier accused of using millions of dollars from international investors to fund a lavish lifestyle complete with vacations and personal jets. An autopsy on Danny Pang did not immediately find a cause of death, a county coroner said. Pang pleaded not guilty in July to federal charges of evading currency reporting laws.
