After large jury verdicts grab the headlines, there is rarely any follow-up examining what actually happens to the awards once the juries go home. The National Law Journal has filled this void by returning to see what happened to 100 of the several hundred verdicts of $1 million or more rendered in 1997. Thirty-four of the verdicts are in this section, and the remaining 66 will be presented on Thursday.

Bloomberg L.P., has entered an agreement to purchase BusinessWeek magazine from its owner The McGraw-Hill Companies. Though the terms of the deal were not disclosed, BusinessWeek reported on Oct. 13 that Bloomberg was offering between $2 million and $5 million in cash. Also, Telenor Group and Altimo, the telecom arms of Russia's Alfa Group, have agreed to combine their common assets in VimpelCom and Kyivstar to create a jointly-owned mobile telecom operator, VimpelCom Ltd., and GrainCorp Ltd., an Australian grain supplier and exporter, will acquire the world's fourth largest commercial malt manufacturer, United Malt Holdings group, in a $655 million transaction.
