Privacy Groups Target Online Advertising

A coalition of privacy groups on Oct. 31 called for creation of a "Do Not Track List'' that would prohibit advertisers from tracking online movements of consumers. Similar to the popular Do Not Call telephone lists, the Internet proposal comes as online advertising revenues are growing rapidly, providing critical revenue to startups and Web giants such as Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc.

Supreme Court Passes Up Jerry Falwell Web Fight

Evangelist Jerry Falwell on Monday lost a Supreme Court appeal of a case that sought to shut down a Web site with a similar name but some opposite views. Falwell claims that a gay New York City man improperly draws people to a "gripe site" by using a common misspelling of the reverend's name as the site's domain name. Falwell's attorneys have previously fought trademark battles over other domain names as well.
