Fulton County, Ga.'s district attorney says he can find no record of a 1995 aggravated assault charge brought against a former Black Panther now charged with slaying a county deputy. In 1995, Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin was charged with aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a pistol without a license after a shooting in front of a grocery he owned. Despite the efforts of a pro bono group from Atlanta's Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected an ineffective counsel claim on behalf of a man sentenced to death after his conviction on murder and rape charges. A split three-judge panel ruled Alexander E.
