The Bush administration ran into skepticism from the Supreme Court on Tuesday as justices heard debate, in unusual 90-minute arguments, over a landmark war powers dispute testing the legal rights of enemy combatants held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. N.Y. Judge Allows Suit Against Atkins Center to Go Forward

A suit against low-carb diet promoter Dr. Robert Atkins over his cancer treatment recommendations will go forward now that a Manhattan judge has dismissed the Atkins estate's motion for summary judgment. The judge ruled that public policy forbade the court from enforcing a legal-release provision in the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine's consent form signed by the since-deceased plaintiff. The suit marks at least the second time that Atkins' breast cancer treatments have resulted in litigation.
