Dr. Phil and Son Developing TV Comedy Based on SMU Law School Experience
CBS Television Studios will produce "Class Action" in association with Dr. Phil McGraw's production company. A former executive producer and writer of "Modern Family" will help write the show.

CBS is developing a new law school comedy based on the experiences of Jay McGraw, Dr. Phil McGraw's son, at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas.
According to a report on Deadline Hollywood, the show, “Class Action,” focuses on a law student who is looking for an easy experience in law school, but finds himself in a class where an “eclectic group” of law students are required to argue actual cases in court.
Jay McGraw, his father and Julia Eisenman, vice president of development for Stage 29 Productions, will executive produce the show, according to a report in Variety. CBS Television Studios will produce it in association with Stage 29, which is the McGraws' production company. John Cochran, a “Survivor” winner, and Dan O'Shannon, a former executive producer and writer of “Modern Family,” will write the show.
Jay McGraw was not immediately available for comment about the show, or about his law school experience at SMU Dedman.
Lynn Dempsey, director of external relations for the law school, said dean Jennifer Collins is not available for comment about the TV comedy because the students are taking final exams this week.
However, Dempsey sent this statement: “This is very exciting news for our alumnus Jay McGraw and we wish him the best of luck. We look forward to watching!”
