Good morning and welcome to Supreme Court Brief. The justices are back in the courtroom this morning after their mid-winter break. This first week of the February argument session is a short one because of the Monday holiday and there are just three cases this week. We have details on the cases and who will be standing at the lectern (given negative Covid tests, of course.) Justice Breyer shared thoughts about the court in an interview. Longtime advocate, scholar, mentor, counselor to presidents, Walter Dellinger died last week. Scroll down for one journalist’s recollection. Thanks for reading. We welcome feedback and tips. At the Lectern

The justices start their February argument session with a pair of American Indian law challenges, and a renewed battle over a Trump administration immigration rule. Of the seven lawyers arguing this week, three are making their high court debuts and one is a state attorney general returning for the third time.
