Good morning and welcome to Supreme Court Brief. The court’s first case of the day involves U.S. Marine veteran Kevin George’s legal quest for disability benefits denied him four decades ago. The National Law School Veterans Clinic Consortium is an amicus party supporting George. We talk with the consortium’s counsel of record about the growth of veterans law school clinics. Although the justices issued no new cert grants Monday, they did call for the views of the U.S. solicitor general in cases involving patents and foreign sovereign immunity. We have the lawyers involved in both cases. Plus, scroll down to read how last week’s New York subway shooting might affect the justices’ pending decision in the New York gun rights challenge.

Thanks for reading. We welcome feedback and tips. Contact Marcia Coyle at [email protected] and follow her on Twitter @MarciaCoyle
