The U.S. Supreme Court’s justices have discussed adopting a binding code of ethics on themselves but have been unable to reach consensus, Justice Elena Kagan said Thursday.

“It won’t be a surprise to know that the nine of us have a variety of views about this,” Kagan said at the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in Portland, Oregon, a video recording of which was posted online by C-Span. “We’re nine free-thinking individuals.”
