Scott Keller officially becomes the solicitor general of Texas on Jan. 12, and nine days later he gets his baptism by fire: his first argument before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Keller, 33, will argue on behalf of his state in the closely watched Fair Housing Act case Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs v. The Inclusive Communities Project. The case may determine whether the law allows challenges based on data showing that housing policies have a discriminatory effect or impact, regardless of whether discrimination was intended.
