The Obama administration’s celebration of a pair of U.S. Supreme Court victories began as soon as the justices left the bench on Thursday.

Solicitor General Don Verrilli Jr. (left) and a large contingent of lawyers from his office watched as the court announced the Fair Housing Act decision first and then the long-awaited Affordable Care Act ruling. Both turned out to be solid wins for the Obama administration in cases that many prognosticators thought could be losses. And for Verrilli, it was the second improbable win defending the Affordable Care Act.
