Lawyers would no longer have to pay the $200 annual occupations tax if a bill that the Texas House recently approved becomes law.
House Bill 2089 by Rep. Drew Darby, R-San Angelo, would repeal the occupations tax for 400,000 licensed professionals in 16 occupations, including attorneys.
The House passed the bill unanimously on April 23. Next, the bill must make its way to the Senate and win referral to a committee for a public hearing.
