What started out as Parker County landowners complaining that two gas drilling companies’ hydraulic fracturing activities had polluted their water well has now escalated into a legal battle in which the two companies have turned around and sued the landowners for defamation.

Recently the Texas Supreme Court ruled that the Fort Worth-based oil and gas operating company, Range Resources Corporation, and its subsidiary Range Production Company, can move forward with their defamation suit against Steven Lipsky, who asserted that the companies’ drilling activity in 2009 contaminated his family’s drinking water on their property in Weatherford, Texas.
