A female former law professor at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law has donated $2 million to support legal work that advances women's equality.

Ellen Solender, the second woman in the school's history to receive tenure as a law professor, gave $1.5 million to the school's endowment, and an additional $500,000 for operational support.

The school will use Solender's gift to hire a new faculty member, said Jennifer Collins, the law school's dean.
