Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton does not appear to be using his campaign account to pay his criminal defense lawyers, unlike former Gov. Rick Perry.

Perry seems to have no qualms about using campaign cash—$2.09 million so far—to pay five law firms for his legal defense for two felony charges. While Paxton’s latest campaign finance report does include some expenses for legal services, none of the payments went to the three law firms that have represented him in an ongoing criminal investigation related to alleged securities law violations. Two special prosecutors are preparing to take their investigation before a grand jury to seek indictments against Paxton.
