Female factory worker who claimed pay disparity gets $72,500 settlement

A factory worker who claimed sex-based wage discrimination, disability discrimination and retaliation, agreed to a $72,500 settlement on July 31. Eloisa Schlaff, worked as a quality control employee for Taprite Fassco Manufacturing Inc., a San Antonio-based manufacturer of carbon dioxide regulators in the soda and beer industries. According to the EEOC, Taprite Fassco paid a male over three dollars an hour more than Schlaff for performing substantially equal jobs at the same location. The company allegedly retaliated against Schlaff for complaining about the wages by demoting her into a less favorable and lower-paying position, which she could not perform because of physical limitations resulting from rheumatoid arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome.
