Covering corporate law departments and in-house attorneys for Texas Lawyer and other ALM publications, reporter Kristen Rasmussen profiles Scott Carlson, general counsel at the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

DART was formed in 1983 as a result of a vote held in a number of Dallas-area municipalities. Currently, 13 cities, constituting more than 700 square miles, make up the DART service area. DART provides transportation services through multiple modes—light rail, bus, commuter rail, paratransit and vanpool. It operates the largest light rail network in North America. In fiscal year 2016, DART served 67.1 million passengers, and its FY 2017 operating budget is $494.1 million. The agency is primarily funded with a one-cent sales tax collected within the DART service area.
