K. Knox Nunnally

Senior Counsel, McGuireWoods, Houston

Moving from U.S. Marine Corps captain, to prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney's Office, to trial lawyer at international law firm McGuireWoods, K. Knox “Lighthorse” Nunnally has consistently strived to help those in need and honor the people who have shaped him. He focuses on oil and gas industry issues—a business that runs in his family. Both of Knox's grandfathers were “doodlebuggers”—seismologists who tested for the presence of fossil fuels underground—from the 1940s through the 1970s. Knox also follows in the footsteps of his late father, a Houston-based civil trial lawyer who took more than 100 cases to jury verdict and whom Texas Lawyer recognized as a “Legal Legend” in 2000. As a litigator in McGuireWoods' Houston office, Knox has served as lead attorney for more than 25 jury trials, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts. Knox also works closely with in-house teams to manage cases from initial filing to final judgment.Prior to his legal career, Knox served as an infantry officer and light armored reconnaissance officer for the U.S. Marine Corps, before his honorable discharge as a captain. He completed three combat deployments to Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V, a Purple Heart, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals with Combat Vs.
