The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has suspended Corpus Christi state district court judge Guy Williams from the bench without pay after he was indicted recently on felony aggravated assault charges stemming from an alleged road rage incident.

Williams, who presides over the 148th District Court in Nueces County, was indicted on Nov. 3. The criminal case involves an April 28 incident in which Williams is accused of attempting to run another vehicle off the road and pointing a gun at its occupants, according an article in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. And on Nov. 6, the Judicial Conduct Commission decided to suspended Williams from the bench until the criminal case against him is resolved.

“Until further notice he is further suspended from any activities on the bench,” said Eric Vinson, executive director of the commission.

Vinson explained the commission has the authority to suspend a judge who is charged with a either a felony or a misdemeanor that involves official conduct on the bench.

Williams did not return a call for comment. Terry Shamsie, a Corpus Christi attorney who is representing Williams, could not be reached for comment.

While Williams is allowed to appeal both the commission's suspension order and its decision to halt his pay, the judge has not yet indicated whether he will do so, Vinson said.
