Steve Mostyn

Steve Mostyn, a prominent plaintiffs attorney in Houston, passed away on Wednesday, his wife, Amber, confirmed in a statement.

Her statement did not provide a cause of death, but it mentioned mental health issues and urged anyone considering suicide to call the National Suicide Prevention hotline.

“Our family is heartbroken to confirm that after a sudden onset and battle with a mental health issue, Steve passed away Wednesday,” Amber Mostyn wrote.

Mostyn was a founder of Mostyn Law  and made a name for himself suing the insurance industry — specifically in relation to hurricane-related litigation. A recent focus was transvaginal mesh litigation. He was a major donor to Democrats.

“Steve was a beloved husband and devoted father who adored his children and never missed any of their sporting activities. He was a true friend and a faithful fighter for those who did not have a voice,” Amber Mostyn, a shareholder in Mostyn Law, said.

She also said that her husband touched countless lives, and many friends and colleagues in Texas and elsewhere have reached out. She wrote that a celebration of Mostyn's life will be announced later.

In honor of her husband's life, Amber Mostyn suggested support for the Mostyn Moreno Foundation or the Special Olympics of Texas.

“If you or a loved one are thinking about suicide, or experiencing a health crisis, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline right now at 1-800-272-8255,” she wrote.
