Houston-based ConocoPhillips will be welcoming Baker Botts partner Kelly Rose as its new legal leader come September.

In an email, a spokesperson for the company confirmed that Rose, who has deep experience representing energy companies, including ConocoPhillips, will be senior vice president, legal, general counsel and corporate secretary.

The spokesperson declined to comment further and Rose did not respond to requests for comment.

Rose replaces Janet Langford Carrig, who has been with the company since 2006. In February, Carrig announced that she planned on retiring but would stay on until a successor is appointed.

Rose has spent her entire career at Baker Botts. She joined the firm in 1991 after graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Botts specializes in corporate and securities law and M&A transactions, and her list of energy clients is long. She represented Halliburton Co. in its $38 billion acquisition of Baker Hughes in 2014. The same year, she assisted Shell Oil Co. with the initial public offering for Shell Midstream Partners, which focuses on oil pipelines and storage systems.

She has worked with her new employer, ConocoPhillips, extensively as well. She represented the former Conoco Inc. in its record-breaking $4.4 billion IPO in 1998. She also helped ConocoPhillips with a $2 billion multitranche 144A private placement of senior notes and assisted the company with Exchange Act compliance matters.

Maria Wyckoff Boyce, a Hogan Lovells partner in Houston, said she previously worked with Rose at Baker Botts and believes that Rose is a good fit for her new GC role.

“Kelly is an excellent lawyer and leader who has always been laser-focused on serving her clients. She will carry that focus and leadership to ConocoPhillips. I had the pleasure of working closely with Kelly for many years (Baker Botts) and am excited for her to begin this next stage of her impressive career,” Boyce said in an email.
