Laura Lee Prather, an Austin partner in Haynes and Boone and head of its media law practice, will receive the 2018 James Madison Award from the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas on Sept. 21 at an awards luncheon during the foundation's Bernard and Audre Rapoport State Conference in Austin. The award recognizes Prather as a champion of free speech and government transparency. Prather was instrumental in the passage of the three most significant pieces of First Amendment legislation in recent history: the reporter's privilege, the Texas Citizens Participation Act and the Defamation Mitigation Act.
Frank Herrera Jr., founder of The Herrera Law Firm in San Antonio, will be honored by Texas Watch at the Champions of Justice Luncheon on Oct. 26 at the Club Plaza in San Antonio. Herrera is known for fighting for justice for the underdog.
Adrienne E. Dominguez, a Dallas partner in Thompson & Knight, is the 2018 recipient of the Hiram S. Hunn Memorial Schools and Scholarships Award. Harvard University's Office of Admissions and Financial Aid presents the award to alumni who have made unusual contributions to the admissions process to ensure that Harvard's incoming classes reflect a range of talent and diversity. Dominguez is in Thompson & Knight's intellectual property practice group.
Quentin Brogdon, a partner in Crain Lewis Brogdon in Dallas, has been awarded the Thurgood Marshall “Fighting for Justice Award” for “tenacious effort, against overwhelming odds, in achieving success in the fight for justice” by the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America. Brogdon is a personal injury attorney.
New Position
Briana E. “Bri” Loughlin has joined Winstead as an associate in the firm's Houston office. Loughlin, who is in the wealth preservation practice group, focuses her practice on litigation related to estate administration, trusts and fiduciary matters.
Appointed
Gillian A. Hobson, a Houston partner in Vinson & Elkins and a member of its management committee, has been appointed to the National Association of Corporate Directors' General Counsel Steering Committee. Her practice focuses on corporate finance and securities.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
