Four big Texas firms are among the 100 highest-grossing firms in the world and ranked on The American Lawyer's 2018 Global 100.

Based on 2017 revenue, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld ranked 37th among the 100 global firms, compared with 36th last year. Baker Botts ranked 61st, down from 46th last year, while Vinson & Elkins came in at No. 62, up from No. 65 last year. Locke Lord captured the 84th slot on the chart, down from 74th last year.

The four Texas firms appear in this year's Am Law 100 and also topped the gross revenue chart in Texas Lawyer's Annual Report on Firm Finance, which reported on the 20 Texas firms that grossed the most in 2017.

Those same Texas firms are also on the ranking by profits per equity partner (PEP), which replaces ALM's profits per partner (PPP) metric. On the PEP chart, Akin Gump ranked 22nd, with V&E close behind in 24th place. Baker Botts took the 42nd spot and Locke Lord was No. 78.

Separately, Akin Gump ranked 78th by head count with 858 lawyers globally. Head count of the other three Texas firms was just below the cutoff to make the Global 100 Head Count chart, but they are each in the Global 200 head count ranking, which will be published in the Global 200 report in November.

For the 2018 Global 100 report, The American Lawyer ranked firms by gross revenue, with the firms taken from The Am Law 100, Legal Week's U.K. Top 100 and The American Lawyer's Asia/China report. Other firms were surveyed directly for The American Lawyer's 2018 Global 100.
