Litigation and oil and gas lawyer John Beckworth, a former lecturer and associate dean at the University of Texas School of Law, has joined Jackson Walker as of counsel in Austin.

Beckworth said in a statement that Jackson Walker is a great fit for his practice, which includes litigation and energy work.

Wade Cooper, managing partner of Jackson Walker, said in a statement that the firm is fortunate to have Beckworth on its team.

“He is a prominent voice in energy law and arbitration, having been in private practice for 30 years before joining the University of Texas School of Law,” Cooper said.

Beckworth started his career in Houston at Fulbright & Jaworski, now Norton Rose Fulbright, and left in 1994 to start his own firm, where he did civil trials and appeals. He joined the UT law school in 2013 as associate dean for administration and strategic planning, and as a lecturer.

Beckworth joined Jackson Walker in September, but the firm announced it this month. He could not be reached for immediate comment.

He joins William Powers, former president of the University of Texas. Powers joined the Austin office as of counsel in 2015.
