An energy lawyer who works on liquefied natural gas projects, and who briefly served as head of Baker McKenzie's LNG practice, has joined King & Spalding's Houston office as a partner in the corporate, finance and investments practice group.

David Lang started his career at King & Spalding in 2003, and spent more than 12 years at Vinson & Elkins before joining Baker McKenzie in 2017, where he was global head of the firm's LNG practice. Lang joined V&E in 2005 and worked in the firm's Hong Kong office for seven years.

He made his move back to King & Spalding Wednesday.

Lang said King & Spalding has a leading LNG (liquefied natural gas) transactional practice, and he could not pass up the opportunity to return to the firm he left in 2005. He said LNG is a very busy sector in the energy space.

“It's a growing area, certainly in the United States, where there's been a whole lot of activity, but also globally,” he said, noting that much of the U.S. activity is on the supply side. Lang said he represents domestic and international LNG producers, buyers and shippers.

His clients include Cheniere Energy, NextDecade and Arroyo Investment, he said.

Todd Holleman, a partner in New York who is head of King & Spalding's corporate, finance and investment practice group, said in a statement that Lang's experience as a corporate lawyer with LNG expertise is a good fit for the firm's growth strategy and clients needs.

“There is great buzz about David in the market, so we are excited to add him to our team,” Holleman wrote.

In a statement, Baker McKenzie thanked Lang for his “many contributions” to the firm and its LNG practice, and wished him well.
