ALM is proud to announce Mark Bauer as Texas Bureau Chief, overseeing Texas Lawyer.

Bauer succeeds Heather Nevitt, who, after six years as Editor in Chief of Texas Lawyer, is taking on a broader role within ALM's coverage of the in-house legal community.

Bauer has more than seven years of editing and production experience. As managing editor of National Law Journal and Texas Lawyer, he was responsible for facilitating the production of the monthly magazines, curating newsletter lineups, and soliciting contributed columns from members of the legal community in Washington, D.C. and in Texas. He also interviewed authors for Q&As in the “Newsmakers” column of the National Law Journal.

Previously, he worked as a digital editor at ACTIVE.com, where he grew the endurance audience and used content to expand business opportunities. Before that, he worked as an associate editor for Texas Lawyer, where he helped facilitate the newspaper/magazine production flow and oversaw its social media strategy.

Prior to his tenure at ALM, he spent three years as a research editor for American Airlines' bi-monthly inflight magazine, American Way, and its quarterly magazine, Celebrated Living.

Bauer graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington where he served as editor-in-chief of its student publication, The Shorthorn, throughout 2010.

“Texas is home for me, and I have several friends in the legal community here,” Bauer said. ”Texas is a big, unique state that will continue to be important economically and politically in the future, so I'm looking forward to playing a bigger role in shaping our coverage of the good work being done by lawyers here.”

“With Heather moving into an expanded role at ALM after six years as one of the driving forces behind Texas Lawyer and a prominent figure in the local legal community, we knew we needed someone with a deep knowledge of both the Texas legal market and the publication to fill her role,” said Zack Needles, Global Managing Editor, Regional Brands. “Mark fits that description perfectly. He has a wealth of experience and a great attitude and I look forward to working with him as he leads Texas Lawyer into an exciting future.”

In addition to her roles as Editor in Chief of Corporate Counsel and Inside Counsel, Nevitt is overseeing editorial direction of ALM's Global Leaders in Law, a membership community of global general counsel.

“Texas has such an amazing legal community and it has been my honor and privilege to be the Editor in Chief for Texas Lawyer for the past six years,” Nevitt said. “Although I will miss being a part of the publication, I am excited for its new chapter under the leadership of Deputy Editor Mark Bauer. Mark has been an integral part of the publication in his role as managing editor this past year and I look forward to what the future holds for the publication.”

“Heather is a leading voice on issues impacting in-house legal departments and her knowledge of that community has brought Corporate Counsel and Inside Counsel to an increasingly global audience,” said Gina Passarella, Editor in Chief, Global Legal Brands. “We can't wait to see the great things Heather will do for our global general counsel community and are so fortunate to have Mark take the helm of Texas Lawyer.”
