Litigator Katherine Treistman has left Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe for Greenberg Traurig's Houston office, following the same path taken by her husband, Carlos Treistman, earlier this month.

Katherine Treistman, who was the global co-head of Orrick's energy disputes practice, joined Greenberg Traurig as a litigation partner this week. Before her three-year stint at  Orrick, she was a partner at trial firm Susman Godfrey.

The Treistmans were among the lawyers who launched Orrick's Houston office in January 2016. Carlos Treistman, who was a former head of Orrick's Houston office, joined Greenberg Traurig Feb. 1 to help build the firm's Latin American practice.

“Katherine is a stellar litigator with broad experience in Texas and around the nation,” Mary-Olga Lovett, Greenberg Traurig's senior vice president and co-regional operating shareholder in Texas, said in a press release.

Katherine Treistman said Greenberg Traurig's size, range of practices and large litigation practice will help serve her clients and expand her work outside of commercial litigation.

She declined to identify her clients, but has done commercial litigation in the energy, technology, aerospace, finance and private equity sectors. She also handles antitrust and auditor liability work, labor and employment matters and class actions.

Treistman said it's only her second day on the job at Greenberg Traurig, but she is already working on the litigation teams for two big cases.

“I'm already feeling integrated and doing what I love, and practicing law and trying cases and preparing for battle,” she said.

Treistman said the fact her husband moved to Greenberg Traurig was definitely a factor in her decision to change firms.

“I didn't want to leave him in the lurch. I gather he can't live or work without me,” Treistman joked. “In seriousness, one of the principal reasons I left Susman Godfrey after 20 years of working there and being a partner there was to work with Carlos, to work with our mutual clients.”

Richard Rosenbaum, executive chairman of Greenberg Traurig, said in a statement that the Treistmans fit the firm's practice focus and culture. “With Carlos' focus on private equity, technology, energy and LatAm, and Katherine's strong litigation background, they will hit the ground running in our environment,” he said.

Asked for comment on Katherine Treistman's departure, Orrick said in a statement: “We thank Katherine for her contributions to our firm and wish her the best.”
