New Positions
Langley & Banack Inc. has hired two new attorneys. Mark E. Macias has joined the firm in San Antonio as of counsel in the firm's insurance litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution practice groups. He practices in the area of general civil trial law with a focus on all areas of insurance defense litigation, including personal and commercial injury defense and first-party cases. Timothy L. (Tim) LaFrey has joined the firm as of counsel in Austin. He joins the firm's corporate and tax practice group, bringing his extensive experience in the areas of corporate finance, securities, health care and mergers and acquisitions.
McGinnis Lochridge in Austin announced that Justin M. Cawley has joined the firm as senior counsel in the International Trade and Transactions Practice Group. Cawley represents and counsels clients on a range of international issues, including treaty interpretation, trade regulation, human rights law, EU law and comparative law. Cawley earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A. from the University of Richmond.
Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis announced the addition of partners Andrea Rigali Cunha and Molly A. Huffman to the firm's health care department in the firm's Austin office. Cunha and Huffman will focus on health care transactions, operations and regulatory compliance matters involving investor-owned and not-for-profit health care providers and organizations.

The law firm of Thompson & Knight has named two veteran attorneys as leaders of the firm's offices in Dallas and Austin. Phillip G. Oldham will now lead the Austin office of the firm, while Bruce S. Sostek will serve as office leader of the firm's Dallas office. Sostek focuses his practice on intellectual property, technology and commercial litigation. Oldham is highly regarded for his practice and expertise in federal and state energy regulatory and administrative law, and on transactional matters involving energy projects, energy markets and related industries such as chemical manufacturing.
|Honors
Lewis R. Sifford, a trial lawyer and founding officer of Sifford, Anderson & Co. in Dallas, has been honored by Baylor Law in Waco as its 2019 Baylor Lawyer of the Year. Sifford was honored by Baylor Law, which hosted a luncheon at the Belo Mansion in Dallas on May 1. Sifford, a 1972 Baylor law graduate, received the recognition from Dean Brad Toben and Ike Vanden Eykel, president of the Baylor Law Alumni Association.
Benson Varghese, managing partner of the law firm Varghese Summersett in Fort Worth, has been named the 2019 Outstanding Young Lawyer by the Tarrant County Young Lawyer's Association. Varghese received the award May 7 during the annual Law Day Awards Dinner at the Fort Worth Club.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

Amy O. Bruchs and Kurt F. Ellison of Michael Best & Friedrich have entered appearances for Epic Systems Corp. in a pending employment discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
